Galaxy S5 Active Scheduled For European Release

Now Samsung fans in Europe will get to enjoy the power and handiness of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active that AT&T subscribers in the US have been enjoying exclusively.

Word is that the phone is slated for release in Europe as early as October, if sources, including trusted phone review site GSMarena.com are to be believed. The phone will come with a €629 price tag SIM-free and will be available in just two colours; camouflage green and silver. It seems AT&T will keep the red colour option exclusively for a while.

If you sign up for an AT&T contract they will give you the S5 Active for $579.95 (£360).

The S5 Active has been around since may and has been touted as the rough-and-tough version of Samsung’s latest flagship. It comes with more or less the same specs you’ll find in the Galaxy S5.

You will still get a crystal clear 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080p resolution if you opt for the S5 Active.

Beneath the hood, the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor powers both phones, helped by 2 GB of RAM.

Similar to the S5, the S5 Active comes with 16 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128 GB via microSD card. Both phones operate on the same Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform as well.

Functionalities such as the heart rate monitor which is part of the S Health app, designed to help users manage their health, are present in the S5 Active.

Where the S5 Active differs from its premium cousin is in the features added to make it suitable for a more outdoorsy environment.

Yes, the Galaxy S5 is IP67 certified and can survive being splashed with water or being submerged in liquid for a limited amount of time; so is the S5 Active, by the way.

The key difference between the two Samsung devices is that the S5 Active has MIL-STD-810G certification in addition to being water and dust proof. This means it can withstand salt, rain, humidity, thermal shock, radiation and a very bumpy ride.

There are also physical modifications to the design of the Galaxy S5 to make the S5 Active better fulfil its role.

In addition, the S5 Active has a flat rear panel and bolstered plastic edges. Another key difference is the missing fingerprint scanner in the S5 Active.

So if you need this kind of shock-resistant, hardy device, start saving, it’ll be ready for ordering soon.
