Nokia Announces Lumia 530 Release Date And Price

Nokia has thrown its hat into the low end market again with a phone that appears to offer users real value for money.

A follow up on the Lumia 520, this phone will cost just £60 when it hits UK stores in just about a week from now. If you already had last year’s Lumia 520, there will be little to make you go gaga over this supposed upgrade though.

Which is not to say there are no improvements at all; the Lumia 530 boasts a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor, a slight improvement on the 1 GHz dual-core Lumia 520 CPU.

Last year’s budget smartphone came with Windows 8 while the Lumia 530 comes with the latest version of the OS; Windows 8.1.

But this is neither here nor there as the Lumia 520’s OS was upgradeable to 8.1. One area that can be said to have been significantly improved on is the battery life. While the Lumia 520’s 1430 mAh battery could only last 360 hours on standby, its baby brother can give you 528 hours, which equates to 22 days.

Most of the other features remain pretty much the same.

The 4-inch display has not changed though the 530’s should be a little sharper as it has 854×480 resolution as compared to the 520’s 800x400pixels.

The Lumia 530 has 245 ppi as compared to the Lumia 520’s 233, which in theory at least, should make it easier on the eye.

The 5 MP camera is another constant carried to the newer model from the Lumia 520.

As they release this new Nokia for the cost-conscious buyer into the UK market, the Finnish phone maker will be hoping it will mimic the success of its predecessor which was one of the fastest selling Windows phones of 2013.

Most reviewers agree that the Lumia 530 represents great value for money and is sure to give other budget smartphones, including the hugely popular Moto X a run for their money.

It packs a surprising number of useful functions, has a decent display, and is highly affordable. Starting September 4th you will be able to get your hands on the Lumia 530 which was unveiled back in July. EE, O2, Three, Vodafone, Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse will have the phone on displays for £60 SIM free, so you better start saving!
